Line Break - On-On Feet

I warned her not to.  I assured her it was a mistake.  See the error in your ways, I said.  Don’t go towards the light.  As she approached me on the trail, I was sure it was one of those situations where you think the person if front of you is talking to you, but they’re really talking to their best friend who happens to be standing right behind you.  But no, she grabbed me by the arm, and asked me to write it up.  And so here I am, putting pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) and writing and rambling away as I’ve been assured I’m supposed to do.

I’m the first to admit I have no idea what I’m doing here, so let’s just go with it and find out what happens together.  #762 (just my third hash – oh the memories) came and went without the “hills and clouds” of Paramin or the “washouts, course shortenings, and confused-looking Enrique standing on the side of the hill deciding whether to drive through the flashflood” of Caura.  There was just some good old-fashioned running through the bush, splashing through rivers, and jogging through the middle of a football game.  Oh – and just a little bit of getting the shit scared out of us by un-tethered dogs.

So what happened…let’s see.  To start, there was the usual “It’s short.  No hills,” assurances of the HM and Hares, and then there was the ½ hour detour in the complete wrong direction before finally getting our noses on the right trail.  Once that was accomplished, the game was on (on)!  I don’t think anyone can say that the terrain wasn’t varied this time.  We scrambled over rocks, down embankments, up hills, ran from the aforementioned dogs, and jogged down Santa Barbarba Road on in.

The pack stayed together fairly well this time, led by the trusty (or not) Hares.  I hear there was yet another snake sighting, but I never heard it to be confirmed, so I’m likely to treat it as an un-urban legend.

The jog through town and the long-cut around the football field (follow the paper fellow hashers – that’s where it led) brought a hint of a Monday afternoon to this hash, and then it was on in to the after-hash party where it was chicken sandwiches, ubiquitous kegs of beer, birthday cake (for Victor!  Happy Birthday!), and cookies (cooked by Ginger!  Phenomenal!  Do I smell a new hash tradition?).  Although I’m sure the party went well into the night (I hear that the local bar didn’t know what hit them) I had to leave early and bring my virgins with me so they wouldn’t be scarred.  Don’t worry – I will be sure to make them come again in 2 weeks.

So that’s about all I have.  Michelle, are you regretting your decision yet?  I tried.  I really did.   And I think most of it made sense…didn’t it?  Maracas/St. Joseph is gone but not entirely forgotten.  We laughed, we cried, we ate, we drank.  I’m sure at least a few of us bled a little.  But at the end of the day, the bush conceded and we cried victory.  On on!

Michelle's Mess

I used to wonder why Zam started counting down halfway thru his year, now I know.  With only 4 more runs left to go, the countdown is definitely on on.
The hares, with some local help thrown in, managed to find some virgin territory in what has been a much hashed area.  The parking site was new though and there was some delay while we waited for all late comers to get parked.  The run itself was a good mix of hill, rivers and road running and back to the run site well before dark. The good news was, no one got lost and Smithy treated us to some cake and souse for his birthday.  Apparently, plenty people on the Hash born in October so I hope we’ll be treated to some more bday cake and souse on the next run.
On another note, we’re looking for a venue for the Hash Christmas party. Anyone with sensible suggestions, or a venue, please let me know. On On

Virgins:       Welcome: Cory, Raza, Chris, Edward, Jamilla, Jesse, Melanie, Marisol, Troy, Rena

Birthdays: Happy Birthday Dawn and Victor (Smithy). Hope you have many many more.

Poofters:  Doon for interrupting the run to tie Nella’s shoe lace and making a mess of it; the Hares, for not posting any hash signs on the main road, and Smithy, a Hare, for stopping to chat up some random female on the roadside and as a result, failing to direct the pack on the correct trail.  Smithy got the popular vote, so he was given his 3rd straight down down for the evening.  Now that he’s approaching 70, I hope he was able to enjoy the rest of the night. ON ON
