For those of us who knew not the late Reewatt, it must have come as a surprise that a hash should be so named. Therefore, for the unenlightened here is a brief resume of the life of one of the most dedicated of hashers

First, and to his great and lasting dismay Reewatt missed the first ever Trinidad hash. His great friend and co-worker, David failed to tell him of the event and when he went on the second one we can only surmise from the way he lived thereafter that he was totally bitten by the Hash bug and particularly by the inevitable consumption of enormous quantities of Carib in the company of so many wonderful like minded spirits.! He was Hash Master and a stalwart member of the Committee, Savannah and Lady Chancellor runner, as well as a permanent feature at the Carib hut. His favourite Hash site was Ravine Sabe, which explains the site and as his birthday was early May!

The hash led by Lorin, Asha, Michelle and Mark was extremely well supported. The brilliant device of sending some of the front pack straight to the ON ON, resulted in the latter finding themselves really far behind the back pack . Unfortunately, I suspect that Lorin had to run the hash backwards in order to find those in the front pack who had managed to avoid this particular strategy!

The downhill section or sand slide was much enjoyed by the younger members but not by the infirm who at that point gave up and retired. Not, however before enjoying the site of Asha up to her knees and elbows in wet muddy sand. The walkers, particularly Christine who had got her shoes muddy, explained carefully that much as they would like to help they felt that as a Hare it was up to her to get herself out, fortunately she did otherwise who knows when she would have been rescued. Gordon was blamed for the entire fiasco as he had been shown the best way out and then left the ladies to get on with it.

The final highlight was of course the swim in the large pond. Michelle proved her worth by providing a rope to get down the 50ft sheer sand cliff, something she might have done earlier when one aged hash hare had to do it on his own much to the detriment of his heart!

There was a question asked as to when the walking group started. It may be a surprise to the totally fit and more competitive members that some people get injured one way or another or even old and as such prefer to put a little less effort into the hashing than the horribly fit and young ! When the questioner becomes infirm he may well want to continue hashing but at a slower pace. After all what are checks for but to keep the whole Hash together as much as possible. And I might add the walking wounded, infirm, or simply aged hashers all manage to quaff beer at the end, which is as I understand it the whole point in the operation!
The Hash unanimously gave the hash the thumbs up and the party continued with roti provided by the usual crew.

Mahashma's Meditations

This week I am unable to make the Hash, so my trusted Hash Ass will take over the ceremonial down downs. How unfortunate that my daughter should get her space time co-ordinates wrong and choose to get married on a Hash day, this being Indian Arrival day and all.

Last night a crows feather fell at my feet, I saw a black star in the East and a smiling face of a bald headed man on the surface of the moon. These signs do not potend well. This could be treachery in the making. This could be a coup in Mahashma’s absence. This could be Mr Bling Bling Ash himself trying to take over. If he tries anything give him the Poofter shirt and make him sit on ice.

I have set a plan in motion to deal with Mr Bling Bling .
My Secretary set me up by not placing the Hash Trash in the van.
Hash Master are not supposed to get the Poofter shirt under section c paragraph 2 of the International Hash Masters Constitution.

All balances are due now. Please give your money to Taz. Also I must know your flight time or you may find yourself without transport from the airport.

Hash Lingo

Virgins take note of the meaning of these signs!!!

  1. While on the trail CALL “ON ON” when you see bits of shredded paper/flour! It helps those behind/possibly lost hashers.
  2. “O” – check for the correct trail!
  3. “X” – you’re on the wrong trail! Go back to the check point and start again.
  4. “ON PASS” – to pass someone on the trail.
  5. “ON BACK” – on the wrong trail, you may have reached an “X“….turn back to the check point “O“.
  6. “On OFF” – you’re off the correct trail.
  7. When you are almost in you would see: “ON IN” pointing to the correct direction.
  8. For those who can’t keep up with the ‘3F’s’ (FIT, FAST AND FURIOUS) pack then just go with the ‘Backpackers’  (SMART) pack who just let them do all the work.>
