Christmas Hash Trash

It was the day before Boxing Day and lots of hashers stayed at home
But 17 brave lion hearted hashers got permission to leave their homes
And so it was at Mahashma’s place all 17 gathered for a run
For the virgin hares had said before that they will not be outdone
So the preamble was shared with us after we were called to order
Then much to our dismay one of the hares said “we did not have much flour”
At this disclosure some of the pack indeed displayed a fright
So it was soon On On up the stairs and getting to the road we took a right.
We continued along the road and down the hill without breaking a sweat
When somebody shouted out “Allyuh see flour yet?”
It was at this time, in unison, feverishly all 17 started looking
And not too long after came the clarion call “Checking”
So left and right we scampered off looking for a trail
Those who chose to go right found an X and had to turn tail
So we ambled along the road to a check at Morne Coco Rd
At this check, left was right so we continued along the road
It was along this very road from an apartment a hasher would hail
My memory seems to fail me now but I think it was Jo Esdale
It was then right into Victoria Gardens where we ran the entire block
Here we got another greeting this time from Ms. Tang Yuk
On exiting the gardens Four Roads junction in the distance said to come
50 yards in that direction an X stopped us in our tracks
We turned around and eventually found that it was an ON BACK
So we made our way through the back roads to La Puerta Avenue
Then it was right then left then right again crossing the community football venue
So we came to Diego Main Road by the big tree with the lights
So once again some scampered off, some left and some right
This time both groups were wrong as Xs did prevail
I bravely ventured center where I found the right trail
So it was that we crossed the highway and reached a hill quite soon
Then we were informed that the hill was especially for Doon
Up the hill and down the other side some walked and some did run
As we headed to the Falls in the late afternoon setting sun
Up the stairs and across the walkover to safely get to the other side
The group was now well spread out with one person even looking for a ride
So along the road we made our way to West Moorings from the Falls
This stretch really did take a toll as there weren’t many calls
Left into West Moorings through Starboard to the roundabout
Then left past Regent Towers but not a hasher made a shout
Make a right towards the Main Rd and in the distance you see the park
Go pass the Guard booth and make a right and be greeted by a dog’s bark
As you take a next right, increase the speed for this is the ON IN
So we wended our way along the road with the amber liquid beckoning
SO back at the site we lime and drink for this what it is all about
Running, sweating, checking and shouting are incidental, I have no doubt
Another hash is completed, Mahashma’s first under his belt
Alas I forgot to humbly ask him exactly how it felt
So we hung around and drank and ate as Gail provided hops and ham
And then appeared the groupies who don’t ever miss a good bram
The conversations were varied as we moved to and fro
Pretty soon it became evident that it was time to go
So it is best of luck to Mahashma as he begins his reign
One year from now I promise you, you will not be the same.

Run No. 768 – 25th December, 2010                                                   

Run Site: Goodwood Park

For those true blue hashers who turned up for my first run as HM on Christmas Day I say congratulations for you are the true hardcore of the hash(and not the homeless no life that people say you are), and to the groupies who came along for the lime. We all had a great party with endless drinks and food.

We even had one virgin unfortunately she left before the down downs and I was unable to get her name and worst yet her phone number.
Portia would have gotten the poofter shirt for turning up late to set the run but the crowd cheered for Samantha and she got the poofter shirt for messing around with leftover flour and putting an x in the wrong place. However her fiancé stepped in with chivalry and wore the shirt instead. Thanks to Amanda, Risa and Portia for setting the run although I strongly suspect it was set from the back of a van.

At this time of writing I don’t even know where the next hash is. We seem to be off to a shaky start with the Big Dicks.

Overseas Hash Barbados

I am now taking deposits of $1000.00 dollars for the month of January. Deposits can be made to me, hash assistant Taz or hash cash Dr Paton. The cost is approximately $4000.00. I will get a final cost on the next trash.

Directions:

From Port-of-Spain, drive East on Churchill-Roosevelt Highway to Orange Grove intersection (past Macoya and before Trincity Mall). Turn left (North) and follow the road ahead to Eastern Main Rd. Intersection (T-junction). Turn left (West) and proceed to Caura Road intersection (about ¼ mile or less) on the right (North). Turn onto Caura Road and proceed, passing Caura Medical facility and many scenic, forested areas. Look for HHH signs along the way. Within 5 minutes drive after the bar on the right, there is a T-junction and a bridge. Turn right here, and proceed to the run site on the left.

The following letter was seen in the Botswana Times. Poshhh has obtained a copy.

Dear Sir,

By the time you get this letter it will be christmas day so let me wish you all a Merry christmas.I was on vacation in Trinidad and I was invited by a friend to attend a hash run at a hilltop in Maraval.
The run started at a posh house and it very much reminded me of back home in Africa with all the rich and elite people inside behind a tall gate and the rabble poor made to wait outside on the street. I was told this was going to be a special run so i got permission from my embassy to attend.

The run started and as i looked around I must agree with my good friend Desmond Tutu that Trinidad is a rainbow country. We left the elite houses behind as we scrambled up a dry river bed, pass along the hillside and ended up in another river lower down where the not so well off lived. Apparently this was the abode of a particular man who uses the river as a bathroom. I mention this man because he was naked in the river and had the most enormous member. His member was bigger than any man’s in the whole of Africa.
(In Africa we only have Black Mambas which grow to a long length). He was the talk of all the female hashers and one particular hasher who only has big ears. The run continued along the road and back to the rich people area.

Apparently after the run there is some sort of quasi religious ceremony conducted by the leader. The people who set the run were blessed with intoxicating substances along with people who professed their virginity and others who wish to consecrate their new possessions such as a pair of new shoes. The leader was a tall woman a bit like an Avatar who blesses and punishes her following. But suddenly something happened that really made feel like i was back home in Africa.

While the tall lady was conducting her ceremony a seemingly Indian section led by a tall skinny man Mahashma and his co-conspirators Mumtaz and Asha staged a coup and tried to seize power calling for the arrest of the tall lady. He succeeded for a while forcing the tall lady to wear a disgusting and demeaning shirt .But in the confusion she regained controlled and punished the upstart skinny indian( not to be confused with one called Doon).

I have applied to the Botswana government to start a hash in my country but Botswanian are somewhat skeptical whether this type of activity would benefit the country.

Run No. 767 – 11th December, 2010                                                   

Run Site: Fairways, Maraval

Parting is such sweet sorrow.. not!   But last run of the year (for me) and oh how sweet that was.  The Dooks, Nevie, Alan and your HM practically out did ourselves setting the perfect run.   Of course, Nevie almost tried to run me over with a big black cow, but luckily I lived to tell the tail.   A quick run thru the back of the Maraval hills and then it was back to the run site for the down downs.  The Ass Hm tried to stage a coup, and it might have worked too, until he took his shirt off and tied a diaper around his waist. 

Good try Mahashma.   The downs downs were completed in record time, it was then on to the real festivities of the day, the Hash Christmas party.

 On On

Poofter Award:Coming across a naked Indian on the trail earlier in the day, the Dooks was so impressed he wanted to go back for a second look.  Nevie for almost maiming the HM with a lethal weapon, a cow, and the set up of the afternoon, the winner, the HM for some nonsensical crime having to do with a cell phone.  (There were a couple of other nominees, but oops, I can’t remember who they were). 

Then it was on to the fete of the year.  Alcohol flowed and the people were fed, except Zam and his gyul, according to him.  Then the disorganizing committee put on a sterling performance that really impressed the audience never mind they couldn’t make out the words of the song.   Amazingly Santa and his helpers then appeared on the roof by the chimney.  Even more unbelievable, as they came down the chimney, Santa morphed into a super cool hip hop Santa with a hot little helper.  That was sure one naughty Santa, and he rewarded his hardworking girls and boys with some deserving presents. 

The ceremonial Parrot was then handed over to the new HM, Mahashma, who took his time in naming his new Hash Ass, Mumtaz.  Good luck to you both!

Take left at Golden Grove intersection (Bhagwansingh’s Hardware) and proceed north along Golden Grove Road until Eastern Main Rd. Turn right at Eastern Main Rd and proceed east along Eastern Main Rd to Lopinot Road/ Eastern Main Rd intersection. Turn left at Lopinot Road junction and proceed north along Lopinot Road to Lopinot Village and run site is opposite GARSAL’s bar by the almond trees (Parking is along the street). Look for HHH signs. Food on sale.

Well I arrived at the Blue Basin run site in good time, i.e. only 5 minutes late, and not after the run had started. Not having hashed in quite a while, I wasn’t too sure what to expect. Had anything about the hash changed? Well, the Hash was called to order by the Hash Mistress (HM), and the hares gave some dotish speech about no hills and no mud (yeah right!) and what the virgins should and should not do, and we were off. And as soon as we take off, the HM, who was walking just in front me say “Oh sh*t! Ah have to get a scribe!” And she turn around and the first person she rest her eyes on was me. So guess what, I end up being de scribe! So on to describe de run…..

Anyways, the pack soon ran into a check. We going left or we going right? Well neither, as it turned out. We had to go down. So on down a steep hill, the first of many. I mean you must know that what goes down must come up! So you know is hill to come!

After that came a nice river bed, and I quite enjoyed splashing through the water every now and then. Then came the hard part! Uphill and more uphill. And talk about mud??? I ketch mih nennen trying to get up that hill. Remember I eh do this for a while. I slip and fall in the mud so many times, I lose count. And a very nice young man had to give my bottom a push a couple of times to get me up some particularly slippery slopes! Turns out he was a virgin, but if you ask me, he is a natural born hasher!

Did I mention the hill and the mud? Actually, I have to stick in a complaint here. I don’t know when hares will learn that it’s not a good idea to set a run with plenty hills when it’s been raining for WEEKS, possibly months! I mean, allyuh eh realize yet that it does get real slippery and dangerous when 50 to 100 people climb up or down the same hill? And then there was the garbage dump – broken glass and sharp rusted steel. But apart from the mud and plenty people slipping and sliding, it was an uneventful hash, although I’m sure there were some injuries.

I eh hear anybody cuss, I eh see anybody litter, I eh see anybody going in the bush to have sex or do anything else. All I see is a man peeing by the side of the trail. No, not the one who was nominated for poofter. Some other guy I never see before. I didn’t report him because I didn’t know his name. But he know who he is. And I really see Gerry coming back down the hill when he was supposed to be going up. Complaining that his calf was hurting him. And as the very observant HM noted, holding another part of his anatomy.

After we get up that long, steep hill, most people then proceeded down the wrong trail. We finally came to an ‘X’ WAY down the trail and had to turn back. Only on the way back did some of us notice a check, which was also some distance down the trail. Is that allowed, I asked myself? I think the hares succeeded in annoying lots of folks with this one!

Well I come in long after the front runners – because as ah say, I not as fit as I used to be. Not that I ever came in first, mind you! Found the usual liming, chatting and beer drinking going on. Then the HM hold up some keys and say somebody didn’t claim their keys. So I figure somebody probably get left in the forest. Well, I don’t know how that turned out, but I didn’t see anybody coming forward to claim the keys, and I didn’t see anybody going to look for any lost hashers. I just hope nobody was left overnight in the bush.

And so, on to the down downs. Hares cheered (or booed, depending on how you enjoyed the hash), virgins welcomed, poofter t-shirt awarded, it was back to liming and beer drinking. I didn’t stay for the lime at the bar, so somebody else will have to report on that. But all in all, I must say, a good hash. And I discovered (to my relief??) that it was the same old hash. Some things never change!

On-On

Run No. 766 – 27th November, 2010                                                   

Run Site: Blue Basin, Diego Martin

B3H3

Blue Basin… hills, rivers, mud, bandits, rain, clearly, you either had to be stupid or a hasher or both to run through this area. Recognizing this, the Hares – 3 Hoes and 3 Bitches aka Nico, Andre, Rousdhie, Kristian, Eggie & Pradeep, urged an early start, 4 p.m. and after squeezing as many cars as possible into the tight parking area, led the pack off for what was to be the first of many slippery up and downhills. The usual SCBs like Enrique and Gerry, found some fictitious reasons to cut short the run, while the hashers with real balls enjoyed the mountainous terrain. Good run guys.

The afterlime was in full swing when we decided to quit while we were ahead, in other words, the lime moved to the bar in Diamond Vale, a much safer spot to be sure. Most hashers were content to buy their BBQ diners, but not so, Dooks & Gerry who bought hotdogs from the nearby grocery and grilled them on a vendor’s pit, much to the man’s surprise. Apparently, business was so good they’re now thinking of moonlighting.

And so it was, the lime continued, many beers were drunk and a good time was had by all.

Poofter Award: Upset because someone else set a run in a hilly area, Doon, the original mountain goat, left his shoes home so wouldn’t have do the run; Gerry, turned back halfway complaining his calf was getting hard while holding his cojones,., he’s either missing a leg or he doesn’t know his calf from his cojones. Roushdie, a hare, for gross dereliction of duty, neglected the pack for the entire run to look after his girlfriend Noel, and Simon for peeing on the trail and not washing his hands after even tho surrounded by water.. eeeww!

The Winner: Roushdie, got his down down on his knees and a barrel of cold water over his head for being a pussy about putting on the poofter tshirt.

Picked up by Audrey and On On to the Moss residence. Transfer to Demarise’s car ‘cos she’s the least alcoholic of the three of us. Make the mandatory stop at the Ponderosa (now the Spanish Hall) for a quick beer and on to the run. Arrive at the quarry to be greeted by the Hash Master – that will be right, she was probably just getting out of bed!

These days, as an irregular (not in the bowel sense) hasher suffering from the onset of dementia, every hash is like the first day at a new school. Who the hell are all these people and shouldn’t most of them be doing their homework?

Ms.Girod eventually deigned to join us and give us the official OnOn and off we set across the moonscape.

Describing the run itself is always a pain in the arse for the trasher – run, call “ON ON”, Stop, Call “Are you on?”, no f—— response, watch a nice boomsy in front, pick up speed to pass a not so nice boomsy, slow down for a possible boomsy to pass, call “ON ON”, call “are you on?”, still no f—– response- Are you getting the picture?

Overall it was a good run with a little bit of bush (the preferred option these days – I’m led to believe) but mostly it was heads up and pick your way through the mud, sludge, water etc.etc.- A run for the nimble of foot – yes Townend remember those days.

The best part of the run for me was when, after about 1 ½ hrs, the heavens opened up. Some enjoyed the shower, and others just allowed it to add to their misery. Me, I was delighted ‘cos I was about at the end of my tether, and the hares were forced to cut the run short, in case of a flooding stream, and escort us home for tea and crumpets. No Alan, we don’t want to know about the wonderful two hours you had to cut out.

And so to the Down Downs. At the risk of being a boring old fart, for those who didn’t hear it on the day, it never ceases to amaze me that despite successive Hash Masters over the years imploring hashers to CALL on the run- not a sound, but when it comes to a bit of Hash Hush when the HM is due a bit of respect you can’t hear yourself think.

For those who don’t know what to call, the following is the ridiculously simple Hash Vocabulary:-

Are you on? – I don’t know where I am can I safely follow you?

On On – Yes you can

Checking – I’m as lost as you are

On Back – I’ve F—– up again, Try somebody else

EN ESPANOL

Are you on? – Is your family in Venezuela rich

On On – Si Senor

Checking – and your bank account?

On Back – Try my friend Juanita behind you.

By the time the HM had toasted the virgins, and started to dish out the various hash awards, I was on my 4th or 5th beer so the tried and tested Hash equation had come into effect.

[Time to rehydrate (mins)]             (measured in Newton’s Nubiles)

The Big Pussies

The Big Pussies of Justin, Alan, Curtis, Timothy and Reed were aptly named for sure – one fainted when he was setting the run, another came close to impaling himself on his own cutlass and almost lost a couple of his appendages in the bargain, and of course, the other 3 – usual drunks or should that be, usually drunk. Somehow they managed to pull off a credible run through the quarry and surrounding forests. The pack stayed together right up until the end when the heavens opened and shoes and soles began disappearing into the soft squishy sand. Once in tho’, hashers took advantage of the ‘wet’ bar and it was business as usual never mind the pouring rain. The action soon moved to a local bar where the lime continued in relatively drier conditions. And so the ole talk flowed until the last beer was drunk and, you guessed it, a good time was had by all.

Remember folks, pls keep calling while out on the trail., ie, "ON ON", "ON BACK", "CHECKING"..etc, it seriously helps the back pack/stragglers to locate the FRBs, not that they care of course. So be nice and keep calling.

764	October 30, 2010	Bimbo Cyats	Chaguaramas	A Front Runner

After several erroneous reports from the meteorological office and ODPM about severe weather and flash flooding, the Bimbo Cyats managed to have purrrfect weather for run #762 in Chaguaramas. Everyone was either well rested or hung over from having been released from work half day the day before. 

The Bimbo Cyats were well outfitted in costumes complete with ears, bow ties, and tails. The tails however always seemed to find their way between their legs instead of hanging behind. This, I was to learn, would be a contributing factor to the total lack of running by the hares; most of whom seemed content to walk around with their tail between their legs and an inexplicable grin.

The run started in the car park next to Pier 1 with quite a few hashers in Halloween attire. Some hashers looked ridiculous in costume, for others, no costume was required. The trail began with a brief splash in some stagnant pools near the shore to get everyone’s feet wet and then proceeded west along the beach to turn inland and into the bush. There was a long unpleasant uphill on-back during which the hares were content to stand at the bottom of the hill and ridicule the hashers as they emerged from the false trail. That was but the beginning of the lack of assistance from the hares.  Betty was particularly keen on making sure all false trails were adequately explored before clearing the way to the correct trail which was disguised by bush and foliage.

The trail ran around the Chaguaramas area traversing various river beds, both wet and dry. The hash pushed on running through agricultural fields in one of which there was an armed CDA security officer. After being told we were not supposed to be running on government lands, he lamented on our running through the fields. We nodded, asked him if he saw any paper on the ground, and yelled “on-on!”

Some parts of the trail were reminiscent of a zoo. There were pens filled with turkeys, ducks, geese and chickens. There were also a few chicks (the juvenile kind with feathers) in addition to the occasional hasher chick running around the pen. Other areas seemed like we were going through a swamp, but it was more likely that the swamp was a byproduct of the livestock.  The additional ‘fertilization’ by the animals added to the texture and aroma of the trail. There was also a lot of barking from a dog house which retained, thankfully, its contents until another time. 
The run was filled with low hanging and fallen bamboo; there were also several shrubs of a thorny variety. This spiked vegetation precipitated a relatively new female hasher to complain that she had never received so many pricks in the bush. Ahh………the joys of hashing. No doubt practice makes purrrfect.

 In spite of Betty’s lack of help we eventually found the on-in and trotted into the bar to replenish fluids and intake food. Thank God for bush.

The Bimbo Cyats

It was a beautiful day and no sign of the dreaded storm Tomas which was to hit Trinidad that morning…  they say God is a Trini, but I wonder if Jesus might have been a hasher.   Whatever, we were certainly grateful that we were blessed with perfect weather, for what was really, the purrfect run.   As expected for Chag, it was a large turnout of hashers, some in costume ready for the competition later on.   I’m not sure who or what most were dressed as, but they all took to the trails, a  crazy bunch for sure.  The winners of the best Halloween costume, Lindsay Lohan (Carla) and Ms. KFC (Natasha), Madam Christine, ‘ape man’ Wahid, and Rebecca camouflaged as a bush, were presented with ‘Monster’ prizes. 

Many thanks to Pradeep and Blue Waters for sponsoring the prizes and the Monster drinks/Blue Waters water and providing the tent.  It was much appreciated.    

On another note, what really going on with Hashers nowadays?  Are they getting old or everybody on a cufu? By 9 p.m., the lime was all wrapped up, so we Bimbos made the most of it and ended the evening with some tequila shots.  Good going cyats, thanks for a great lime.

Poofter Award:   There were pricks and then some.   Firstly Shauna was nominated for complaining that she was getting too much ‘prick in the bush’;  Alan nominated for something to do with dressing his daughter as a walking bush or not cutting the grass or something;  and then there was the Winner – Omari, the virgin hasher, the overwhelming crowd favourite…who won  for just being a prick.

RUN SITE: Blue Basin, Diego Martin
TIME: 3.30 p.m.

Drive until the end of Diego Martin Highway. Take a right followed by an immediate left unto St Lucien Road. Follow this road until the end. Take a right on this T-crossing. Then drive past the waterwheel (on your right) and follow the road curving to the left and crossing the Blue Basin River. Take a right immediately after this bridge onto Blue Basin Extension Road. Keep following this road, onto Blue Basin Road, towards the hash site near the Blue Basin Waterfalls. (And yes Michelle, there will be road signs (for you as well…)
