Welcome to the first run of the year. The drive was cool and uneventful, till i turned into the forest and saw the mud and big puddles, however i was right behind Doon with his truck, and he seemed to know what he was doing, so i followed his line in my little Jitny and got thru OK. It seems this caused some problems for some later arrivals, but they were overcome eventually. The Big Dicks were well into their heavy drinking , as they do when i arrived, and I was immediately encouraged by Eggy to partake in a Rum and Soda or two or three. The choice of alcohol was only the best, with Johnnie Walker, Blue ,Green ,Gold ,and Black, Grey Goose Vodka and Eldorado 15 year old Rum on offer. Eggy has left us by now to take up a post in the Bahamas, but will be back when time permits, so i wish one of the Hash stalwarts good luck in the future and come back soon. Now who buyin de booze for de Dicks? As for these big Dicks, i hear only one is big , de others are small, and one of dem, only have one ball. I not going down dat road about de Pussy, who is the replacement for dear old Eggy.

Well Pradeep finally called us all to order, and away we went on the wide trails afforded by this forest. It was the usual on back on the first leg, and then we got stuck into some fairly decent stretches of running, which the trails allow. Many of us veteran Hashers know this forest quite well, and have set Hashes here over the years. If you go off trail, down the ravines and up the other side , it can add a bit of spice to the run , which is what they did.The run became all a bit confusing to me, although i am easily confused, and i think i only saw 3 checks and a couple of X’s.

However, I not complaining as i had a good sweat , and was not unduly challenged, as i ran with Hanif for a while and was able to have a chat. So good to see Hanif back running again , another stalwart who was missed last year.
A couple of times confusion reigned when the trail could not be found and Hashers milled around like lost sheep for long periods, but i suppose it helped the pack to all catch up again . I got caught twice like this and ended at the back, after all my hard work to stay in touch with the front runners. I eventually teamed up with Simon and we had a good chin wag whilst trotting along, and upon hearing voices to our right, we cut thru de bush off trail and met an X, and a guy running toward us. So we followed the paper back to the main trail and there was the front runners. Oh the changing fortunes of Hashing, we were back at the front again.

There was some decent stretches of running from here to the On In and we encountered a smallish Mapepire coiled up on the side of the trail. He seemed unconcerned by our presence, however i thought a few of the girls and kids who went near to him to have a closer look were taking a big chance. We finally hit the road and the On In and it was quite challenging, as the terrain was very undulating and a fairly long run in. There were plenty of individual battles going on for bragging rights on this part of the run and made it more fun. All in all a good work out. I cant say the same for the Hares, apart from Ricky Manette and very occasionally Sheldon , the rest of the Hares were only seen drink in hand at various junctions. Maybe that’s the new way.

The usual after Hash activities got going now . Catching up on the latest gossip and meeting old friends, talking over the latest Football scores from the UK, and quaffing cold beer. After the usual rituals of naming and shaming, and de Down Downs, it was off to Arena Junction for a lime. Music , more beer if you want it and
some good vitals. A great day out and cracking start to the new Hashing year. Keep it up all you Hares. ON ON.

Pradeep’s Energy

What a Hash it was, great company and lots of fun. It all boils down to the hashers, they are the ones responsible for making it enjoyable and adding the energy, excitement, anxiety and suspense. It was a great run indeed, lush terrain, good timing with the usual Big Dicks trademarks of long back checks. It was unfortunate when the hashers nominated the captain of the hares for pofter and he refused to accept, this added energy to the hashers calling on him over and over again but in good spirit another hare took the pofter on behalf of the hares. One thing stood out and should be continued by the hares and that was the tremendous support given to the local bar and food. I would also like to say THANKS to the people who continue to work quietly behind the scene to ensure everything is in place to have a good time, the organization of the lights, bar, garbage and the support during the down downs and those taking photos and notes and most of all…..all the hashers who continue to support. I would also like to wish Eggy all the best! …….ON ON.
Regards, Pradeep
